General F.A.Q’s

Screenings ultrasound are for those that do not want to wait to get a referral or insurance approval and want to get an ultrasound done fast, those that do not want the radiation exposure from a mammogram (BREAST). THYROID, for those that have family history of Thyroids nodules, have some Thyroid related symptoms and want to find out any nodule and ideal for those that have HSA and Hight deductible insurance.

Breast Screening ultrasound is a non-compression and radiation-free that evaluate both breasts including the axillary area. This ultrasound will be performed by our highly experienced and registered technologists by the ARDMS Is Highly recommended for dense breast tissues and patients with an implant. Breast ultrasound can locate breast tumors and cysts as small as a few millimeters in size.

Breast Screening ultrasound includes a scan of both breasts with the axilla (underarm area) evaluation and the Radiologist report.

No, an ultrasound does not replace a mammogram or vice versa. Breastcancer.org Mammograms are probably the most important tool doctors have not only to screen for breast cancer, but also to diagnose, evaluate, and follow people who’ve had breast cancer. Safe and reasonably accurate. The technique has been in use for more than 50 years. For women at average risk, screening mammograms should be performed annually beginning at age 40 to check the breasts for any early signs of breast cancer. If you have a higher risk of breast cancer, you and your doctor may decide that you will start screening mammograms at a younger age. Mammograms detect microcalcifications that cannot be seen on ultrasound.

Dense breast tissue, as opposed to fatty breast tissue, is composed of more fibrous or glandular tissue than fat, making it much harder to read on a mammogram. Approximately 50% of the women in the United States have dense breast tissue. On a mammogram, dense tissue appears white, while cancerous tumors also appear white, making it nearly impossible to “see” the tumor. Therefore, ultrasounds are so critical for women with dense breast tissue, as nearly half of all cancers are missed with mammography alone.

Thyroid ultrasound uses sound waves to produce pictures of the thyroid gland within the neck. It does not use ionizing radiation and is commonly used to evaluate lumps or nodules found during a routine physical or another imaging exam. For patients that have a family history of Thyroid nodules and want to get an ultrasound.
An ultrasound of the thyroid is typically used:

  • To determine if a lump in the neck is arising from the thyroid or an adjacent structure
  • To analyze the appearance of thyroid nodules and determine if they are the more common benign nodule or if the nodule has features that require a biopsy. If a biopsy is required, ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration can help improve the accuracy of the biopsy.
  • To look for additional nodules in patients with one or more nodules felt on physical exam.
  • To see if a thyroid nodule has substantially grown over time.

I can provide a good indication of the sex of the baby as early as 14 weeks via ultrasound. However, I cannot guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as developmental stage, fetal position, mother’s body composition all affect the ability to determine sex. It is important to have a full bladder for early ultrasounds, but I do offer a free rescan if the baby doesn’t cooperate!

For the most part yes, but not always. It depends on many factors that may include: mother’s body composition, amniotic fluid levels, and baby’s position. I promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of your baby.

It is important to be hydrated for your appointment. Your bladder should be comfortably full at your appointment time. A meal or snack 30 minutes prior will help with the baby’s activity for the scan.

Between 10 and 14 weeks, the baby is transforming into a tiny human. Arms and legs are developing and you can see the baby wiggle.

Between 15-27 weeks, the baby is a bit thinner in appearance, and the facial details aren’t as developed, but we tend to get more of the baby on the screen and you can see more movement.

Between 27-34 weeks, the baby is chubbier in appearance, the face looks more like they’ll look on arrival, and we tend to focus on the face or other body parts since the entire baby won’t fit on the screen.

After 35 weeks, 3D images can be amazing or extremely limited due to the late gestational age.
